Football Fans Flock to Bowl Games

Thousands of college football fans are in Orlando this week for two bowl games. The events' promoter says the games will pump millions of dollars into the local economy. More than 50 thousand fans are expected to cheer on their teams as the University of Miami Hurricanes and the University of Wisconsin Badgers face off in the Champs Sports Bowl tonight. On New Year's Day, more than 60 thousand have tickets to watch the Louisiana State University Tigers play the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Capital One Bowl. Both games take place in Orlando's Citrus Bowl Stadium. In addition to the games, the week's events include tomorrow's Citrus Parade in downtown Orlando, pep rallies and college band concerts around town. Florida Citrus Sports, the nonprofit organization that promotes the bowl games, says the teams and their fans will fill thousands of Orlando area hotel rooms while patronizing local restaurants and bars. The group estimates the combined events will bring at least 80 million dollars into the local economy.
